Geroskipou Antiquities Under Threat
Dirt Piles
All the dirt that has been dug up is piled by the seaside. Either that or they've got some huge moles...
Military Defences
There was a trench at the end, which I imagine was another remnant of the more recent troubles. There are a number of pill boxes along this sea front, which are now slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Aphrodite's Garden?
So what are the ruins of? Well according to Press reports, some of them date back from the 5th century BC. The Mayor of Yeroskipou, Michalis Pavlides, stated that it used to be the Garden of Aphrodite.
What I find so amazing, is how it is all so close to the surface. They only have to scratch the soil in some places, to find evidence of ruins.
What Remains?
So what else lies hidden beneath the earth here? Is it worth preserving, or should it just get built on?
