Avakas Ruin

New Gate

As I progressed up the road, I came across this new pillar that had been erected. To me, this looks like part of a gate. It looks like they will be installing a gate here. Is this to close the route off to everybody but the farmers who run a goat farm further up the track? I certainly hope not, as this is a useful track. It goes all the way down to Lara Bay.

Back To The Pig Farm

Looking at the pig farm, you can see that it doesn't have any cement in the walls either. It is just rocks. However, it has a perfectly serviceable roof, so I think it is safe to say that the ruin we saw may well have been a similar structure, as opposed to a pen.

Piglet Pleasure

There was a mother pig inside and a little baby piglet.

Shy Dad

There was another pig but he was very shy.

Final View

We headed back up the track, and kept left rather than retrace our steps across the valley. This eventually brings you out into Panos Arodes. The views along the way were stunning and very Autumnal.

I know the new lockdown is a pain, but compared to the lockdown we had earlier in the year, it is a lot less strict. We should be thankful that we are still able to explore the open countryside like this, without having to phone in our intentions. It won't go on forever.

One parting thought, as it has started raining. If you do go exploring off road, make sure you have suitable tyres, plus a spade and a small pickaxe. It is no fun getting stuck in a mud river that used to be a dirt track. So be prepared!
