Argaka Overflow
Mystery Tunnel

Ooooo a mystery tunnel. We like stuff like that, so we took a slight diversion to take a look. You have to drive across the new stream to get here. It is to deep to walk.
Base Of Dam

I wonder why, if they have this tunnel, they don't just open a valve somewhere to let water out here.
Dark, Very Dark

There was a plaque above this tunnel, shown in the inset. According to a quick internet search, the dam was built in 1964, so they must have added the plaque later. This tunnel has a superb echo, so it probably doesn't extend very far. I didn't have a torch and was in no hurry to go exploring without one.
Behind The Dam

And, for what it's worth, this is the view behind the dam. There appears to be a trig-point in the distance, which presumably pre-dates the dam. I can't see why they would bother erecting one afterwards.
Instant River

We had to cross this to get to the tunnel. Unless you like exploring relatively short tunnels, or are fond of echoes, I wouldn't bother attempting the crossing. Instead, carry on up to the base of the waterfall...

We recently assisted on a litter cleanup along the nature trail to Argaka Reservoir. While we were there, we couldn't help but notice the abandoned village of Makounta on the other side of the valley. We were also curious where the nature trail went once it passed the reservoir. So the other day we returned with our camera. This is what we found...
