Ayia Napa Aquaduct

Published 21st of August, 2022

Ayia Napa has a lot of hidden charms, far removed from its reputation as a Party Destination. One such treasure is the ancient aquaduct which was constructed to provide water to the old Monastery that lies in the heart of the town. It is worth tracking down as it is a lot more interesting than it first sounds.

I Love Cyprus

You will find this tavern on the way from the centre of Ayia Napa to the Sculpture Park. They clearly love Cyprus, and why shouldn't they? But why am I telling you this? Well, because next to it, there is a path that leads you to one of Ayia Napa's hidden attractions.

Official Sign

Don't take our word for it though. Follow the official sign.

A Helpful Map

So what is the aquaduct, and why is it there? Well, we have made this handy map. Point #1 marks the site of Ayia Napa Monastery. It is relevent to us because that is the ultimate destination of the Aquaduct. Point #2 marks where the "I Love Cyprus" sign was located. Point #3 is the main part of the Aquaduct. And Point #4 shows where the aquaduct originated from. More on that at the end of the article though.

Walk This Way

Now that you have your bearings, let us walk up the path and take a look at the aquaduct.

Not The Aquaduct

The first thing you come to that looks vaguely aquaducty is not in fact an aquaduct. It is just a big supporting wall. It does however have a water feature. Ignore that, and keep to the right.
