Chrysochou Cemetery

This scene is what first brought me back for a second visit.

It looks a lot more like a cemetery than it did back then.
Ruhuna Fatiha
If you visit a TC cemetery, you will see the phrase "Ruhuna Fatiha" on a lot of gravestones. Here's what it means:
"Ruhuna Fatiha" is a Turkish phrase frequently found on Islamic tombstones, meaning "Fatiha for his/her soul". It acts as a request for visitors to recite the first chapter of the Quran (Surah Al-Fatiha) for the deceased, serving as a traditional Islamic equivalent to "Rest in Peace"
Tidy
I was pleased to see how well maintained the Cemetery was. Somebody is certainly treating it with respect.

I wonder if any Turkish Cypriots have moved back to Chrysochou? From the little I know about the Islamic Faith, I don't think they adorn their graves in the same fashion as Christians. I did try researching but there seems to be quite a bit of debate on the topic, so I don't want to ruffle any feathers. It is useful to have a bit of an understanding of other people's religions though, beyond the rhetoric of the mainstream press. For instance, I remember seeing in one ancient chapel where Ottoman invaders had defaced the faces on the wall murals. At first I thought it was petty vandalism, but a bit of reading revealed that in the eyes of the Islamic Faith the images were blasphemous as they were depictions of Holy people. So while I don't appreciate the action, I can appreciate that the motive was not borne out of petty spite.

The Paphos Countryside is a hidden gem, and outside the activity radar of many tourists, which is a shame. The other day we paused on the way back to a trip to the local Recycling Centre to take in the scenery, at one of our favourite viewpoints.
