Around Polemi
Inside

Aside from the armoured cars you will find a small series of exhibits with more information and photographs.

New Shop

Continuing along the road into central Polemi you will come to this new Vegetable Market that has recently sprung up. There used to be a food kiosk here.
Cyprus Pine Avenue

I feel sorry for the trees on the right here. They compete with the overhead cables so occasionally have to be trimmed back, which is why they are so much shorter than the ones on the left.
On today's journey we are going to go through the central commercial part of the village before looping back by the Graveyard. We shall then see the more residential parts of the village before exploring the surrounding countryside. The reason I have chosen this route is because I drove it yesterday and filmed it. I thought it would be nice for the article to go into more detail about what you can see in the film. When the film is published I shall add a link here.
Matsima Junction

There is a turning here to Matsima. Originally Polemi consisted of a series of interconnected hamlets which merged as the village grew in size. Matsima is one of these. We have already driven through another old one, Agios Georgios, though you would be forgiven for not noticing it.
Central Polemi

We've now reached central Polemi. This is Pavlos' Supermarket. It is one of two in the village, and both offer great value for money. You can often find produce here cheaper than the big supermarkets in Paphos, plus you don't have a half hour drive to contend with. They are open six days a week, from the crack of dawn to around 9PM. They used to open every day, but during COVID the two supermarkets agreed to take Sunday off. I am pleased to say they have kept this agreement. Shopkeepers need their downtime too! Paul and Natalie, who run this supermarket, are a lovely local couple, and our next door neighbours. That's what I call a local shop!

The Twelve Churches of Polemi
A while ago we reviewed a new map book on Cyprus. We noted that it showed a lot of churches in Polemi that we were unaware. Many of them were in ruins now, but we thought they deserved to be seen. So join us as we visit them all, or at least, what's left of them.
The Polemi Community Project
The Community Spirit is alive and well in at least one corner of Paphos! In Polemi, a group of volunteers, with the help of the local Mukhtar, are converting an area of wasteland into a Community Garden for the whole of Polemi to enjoy. A few days ago we paid them a visit to see how things were progressing.
Polemi Concentration Camp
As you approach Polemi from the B7, you pass the Kamanterena Winery on your right. Just beyond that, if you are paying attention, you will see a lookout tower that wouldn't look out of place on a WW2 movie. A couple of ancient armoured vehicles might also perk your interest, so pull over, and take a look at Polemi Concentration Camp.
The Polemi Countryside
The last couple of blogs have been a bit intense, so we thought we would chill out and go for a stroll through the Polemi Countryside, and take a look at the flora, fauna, and interesting gypsum formations that can be found in our beautiful Cyprus scenery...
Polemi in 500 Metres
I went for a stroll around Polemi this morning. I didn't use the SMS service, so had to stay within 500 metres of our house. Turns out the light was fantastic and I was able to take some nice pictures, assisted in part, by one of our cats who decided to follow me on my travels...
Polemi Sunrise
A couple of days ago I was up bright and early running some errands, and I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunrise. Naturally enough, I took some pictures, and this put me in the mood to take some more snaps as I carried out my chores...Good Pages To Visit

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
