The Abandoned Rancho Appaloosa
A Water Tower
Once you get to the second main gate, you can park up. Then take a walk to your left and you will find this water tower / storage facility. Here the various spare parts used in maintaining the buildings were stored. Slates, tubes, old hinges, you will still see signs of all of them here...
The Water Tower Roof
When you see a structure like that, you naturally want to climb it, so up I went...
View Towards The Gate
When I next return I shall have to check out that hatch. I only just spotted it.
Inside
Inside there is a pile of slates which got smaller each time we visited, and assorted bolts and bric-a-brac.
Need Any Pipes?
This pile of pipes has also got smaller each time we visited. Somebody somewhere is doing a lot of piping.
Anyway, it is time to move on to the main course. You may want to leave the car at the main gate and continue on foot, as there is broken glass in a couple of spots. Whatever you chose, follow the road down until you come to a junction. One route (actually two, if you look carefully) goes straight down. The third continues round to the left. Follow this route for now, to get to the accommodation. If you are driving, be very careful, as there are a lot of holes due to scavenging.

The Abandoned Hospital at Amiantos Mines
The Cyprus Asbestos Mine is situated right in the heart of Troodos forest. Following a continuous operation of 84 years, the mine came to a sudden closure in 1988, leaving behind large volumes of waste tips, a badly designed mine pit and an unacceptable environmental scar to an otherwise heavily forested natural beauty area. It also left behind a hospital, which now stands abandoned on the other side of the valley. While environmental steps have been taken to turn the area near the mines into a nature park, the hospital has been let to nature.Return to The Abandoned Ranch
The other day we saw an article about a mysterious church that had appeared in the Kouris Reservoir because of the low water level. When we got there it turned out to be a case of bad journalism. However, as we were in the area, we decided to revisit the abandoned Rancho Appaloosa, to see how much it had changed since we first found the place, in 2016.Kouris Reservoir
We've neglected the dams for a while. They've overflowed, and now the waters are subsiding, ever so slightly. But what of the reservoirs further afield? Kouris has a church which is nearly submerged when it is full. So we thought we better photographed this semi-submerged church while it is still semi-submerged.Good Pages To Visit
