What We Miss

Paphos Forest

Ok, so this film isn't really of Paphos Forest, but all the scenes are in the forest, and I had great fun making it. This was possibly the most enjoyable trip for a blog I have done. It was just after the heaviest rains of the Spring of 2019, and road conditions were harsh. I had to drive down the fire break below Vretsia and park the car there, before hiking through the mud to get to Roudia Bridge. It was worth it though. Nobody had been where I was since the rains - you could tell that because there were no tracks - and it really felt like I was exploring a wilderness.

I remember especially how the water by Roudia had a strange, bluish tint from it. This will have been due to the copper in the soil, that Cyprus is famous for. Upstream of Roudia Bridge, there is an old mine. It is quite a distance, and no longer accessible by car, but I imagine the blue tint you can see came from that.

Cats

Cyprus is full of moggies. And these ones all reside at the Church of St Theodosius near the airport. People have been pining for them, and it will be interesting to see what they look like after lockdown.

Beaches

People are missing walks along the beaches. Soon we will be able to go swimming again, but no sun-bathing for the time being. Last year we catalogued all the Paphos Blue Flag Beaches for our directory. If you are want to be reminded of your favourite beach, take a look. You will find virtual tours and lots of photographs. We had great fun making the directory. Some of the beaches, like Chalavro Beach here, were new to us. We couldn't get over how nice they were, and were amazed we had driven by them for so many years before discovering them for ourselves. So take a look and see what you might have been missing.

Limni Mine

We miss Limni Mine! And all the old mines and places with interesting rock formations. We miss going out hunting for nice shiny crystals, and exploring interesting nooks and crannies. I even miss the odd metallic smell you find in these places, indicating that there is more than just sand in the rocks nearby.

The Mall

Finally, people are missing The Mall itself. I guess that also includes Jumbo. Unfortunately, though understandably, Malls will be one of the last things to re-open, so you will have to wait awhile before you hear the tinny tunes again.

We hope you have liked these memories of absent friends. The lockdown will be lifted soon, and hopefully, life will get a bit more normal. There's a long way to go before things are as they were before, but we are certainly headed in the right direction.

We also hope you like the additions of film and 360 tours. By adding them to the blog, it reduces the number of clicks you have to make before viewing different content. Apparently, research has shown that each click loses half your audience, so now hopefully more of you will be able to see what we love showing you - how beautiful Paphos is.
