Polis Archaeological Museum of Marion - Arsinoe
Faces Of The Past
There are lots of high quality exhibits to see, and they are all labelled in both Greek and English.
I was particularly impressed with some of the complete pieces. I imagine they came from inside tombs.
Wine?
These remind me of old Asterix cartoons.
Early Glass
Being a collector of old bottles myself I was particularly interested in this long-necked piece. According to Google, the earliest glass bottles were invented in Mesopotamia around 1500 B.C.. These early containers were created by shaping molten glass around a core of sand. The invention of glassblowing in the Roman Empire around the 1st century B.C. significantly advanced the technology, allowing for the mass production of bottles in a wider variety of shapes and sizes.
Interesting Maps
If you fancy exploring some Archaeological Sites around Polis then you should definitely visit here first. There are plenty of maps giving you hints as to where you can find places of historical importance. Do bear in mind though that you should not see it as a scavenger hunt. You can get into serious trouble if you are found looting.
