Cyprus is sensible. It only puts up the Christmas Decorations a few weeks before Christmas, rather than in October. This way, you don't get heartily sick of them by the time Christmas Day arrives. Last night, the Mayor switched on the Old Town lights, and we were there to join in the spectacle...
We haven't explored the further reaches of the Diarizos Valley much, especially not the hilltops that head towards the Xeros Valley and Paphos Forest. We've been rectifying that recently, and in this blog we want to take you on a visit to Ayios Ioannis. We thought it would be a smallish village, but we were in for a surprise.
This blog is large, so we have split it in two parts. The second part will be published in a day or two.
We just can't keep away from Foinikas. Somebody posted some pics of the abandoned village on our Paphos Chat facebook group, and people were asking how to get there. The Animal Party said on Saturday it would hold a counter-protest at the same time and place as one planned by locals who want to be able to place sunbeds and umbrellas on the protected turtle beach in Lara.
In a statement, the party condemned unlawful unilateral decisions whose aim is to make financial gain by destroying the country’s flora and fauna.
Archaeologists exploring a multi-period site at Prastio–Mesorotsos in Paphos have uncovered a well-preserved plaster hearth and a well-built plaster floor of an Early- or Middle-Chalcolithic (2500-2300 BC) house, the antiquities department said Friday.
A demonstration in support of allowing sunbeds and umbrellas on the protected turtle beach in Lara will be held on September 1.
The beach comes under the responsibility of Inia whose local council have urged people to gather on the beach next Sunday and bring sunbeds and umbrellas to demonstrate against the ban on beach furniture.
Plans to build a Pafos-Geroskipou bypass, from Mac Donald's to the Paphos Municipality Industrial Area have just been announced, with costs totalling approximately € 6.6 million.
