Petratis Gorge - Part 1
The Bridge
This is the bridge that spans the lower part of the gorge. Other than this faded sign, there is nothing to suggest you are near to a point of interest.
No Way Down
When I arrived at the bridge area, I initially hoped to descend to the gorge floor from here. Unfortunately, the slope down was very steep. What's more, it appeared to be a dumping ground for building waste.
To The Left
After my first visit, I checked the Google Satellite View and my drone footage, and I could see that there was a track on the left that went near the edge of the gorge. So I tried driving up it, but soon came to a gated fence. I don't make a habit of crossing private property, so I returned to the road and continued towards the bridge. I soon found another track and drove up that. It was fairly bumpy but eventually led me to this field.
Gorge View
There was a fence bounding part of the field, but I drove as far as I could before continuing on foot. I soon had a nice view of the gorge from the side.
No Entry...Or Exit?
The fence I had seen actually continued to the edge of the gorge. I had originally assumed that it was there to protect land on the other side. My logic for this was that I hadn't seen any fence between here and the main road. However, if you look at it, you will see all the weights are on this side. This would suggest it is there to stop entry from beyond the fence. Whatever the purpose, the only gate I found was locked shut.
