Fig Fun

Funny story about fig trees. When we first moved to Cyprus I had to chop one down. It was near our pool, and I was wearing swimming trunks. I was stripping leaves off the tree and every so often I would jump into the pool to cool off, and to get rid of the strange itchiness. It soon became apparent that this itchiness was due to the fig sap, and lots of tiny little blisters appeared all over my body. A chemist soon sorted me out, but I learned then never to do gardening in swimming trunks. Theses days, I wear long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, and a really horrible jacket that I hate, but that is good at protecting me from tree sap.

I will never get tired of that pun.

We didn't stay long up the hill, and were soon back on our way.

Anyway, back on the road again. Getting closer to the other end now. The road does wind on for a bit though.

Some lovely vistas of the reservoir here. We could also hear running water though.

Indeed, all three rivers that fed the reservoir are still raging torrents. This was probably helped by the recent mountain rains. But this intrigued me, so I did some checking.

The Abandoned Rancho Appaloosa

I feel like apologising for the size of this blog, as it contains over 70 photos. However, this is a lovely place if you like urban exploring, and I felt that if I cut down the picture count I couldn't do it justice. I appreciate that it might not be for everybody though, so the first page contains spoiler photos of what to expect. If you find them interesting, then continue to the main blog!

Return to The Abandoned Ranch

The other day we saw an article about a mysterious church that had appeared in the Kouris Reservoir because of the low water level. When we got there it turned out to be a case of bad journalism. However, as we were in the area, we decided to revisit the abandoned Rancho Appaloosa, to see how much it had changed since we first found the place, in 2016.

Asprokremmos Dam Revisited

The Asprokremmos Dam first started to overflow over a week ago. We filmed it at the time, but vowed to return once it had got into full swing...
