The view on the way down is completely stunning. Definitely do the walk the way we did. You won't regret it.

We were on the home stretch now, but if you were going the official direction then this bench would provide a convenient break from your climb.

Limestone

One of the signs identifies the predominant rock as limestone, in case you were puzzled. Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed principally of calcium carbonate (calcite) or the double carbonate of calcium and magnesium (dolomite). It is commonly composed of tiny fossils, shell fragments and other fossilized debris. It does not smell or taste of lime. The word "limestone" comes from the Latin word "limus," meaning "mud." This name was given to limestone because it is often found in the form of mud deposits.

One Final View

Anyway, the path we were on eventually put us back at the start of the trail, by the campsite. If you are thinking of following the trail, here is our advice.

  • Wear decent shoes
  • Check weather reports first
  • Do the walk in reverse
  • Take plenty to drink and a snack
  • Use a Walking App if you can

We had originally intended doing a longer route, as the trail linked up with another one which would have taken us around the far side of Aphrodite's Baths. A Walking App would have made the route a cinch to find, but it was far from obvious to us when we were out and about. However, we both found the walk we did actually follow to be highly enjoyable, and I strongly recommend it.
