Akourdaleia Church And Mill
Below The Roof
This is the roof we walked on a minute ago. The main feature of the tourist attraction would be in there, I imagine, so let's take a look.
Ancient Mill
It looks like the building was built to protect an older building, if that makes sense. A closer inspection revealed that there had indeed been some form of mill here in the past. It seems weird that the second building is now itself a ruin though.
Batty Friend
In the top right of this picture you can just see a small bat which had made the ruin its home.
Interesting Rocks
There were lots of interesting pools and rocks around the old mill. One thing I ddin't see though was lots of dates and initials. Normally, any water source in Cyprus seems to get inspected regular, and sprayed for insects. The inspectors mark their visits - annoyingly - by initialling a rock and writing a date. This is a shame as it makes the place look like it is covered with graffiti. I do wish they would advance to the 21st century and record their logs digitally.
More Investigation Needed
Anyway, it is clear that this gorge still has plenty of secrets. I shall not follow the water downstream though until I am better equipped. Besides I still haven't visited that church...

Theletra Waterfall
The abandoned village of Theletra, between Stroumpi and Kathikas, is a great place to visit and explore. Equally fascinating is the surrounding countryside, which consists of forgotten tracks and overgrown orchards and vineyards. The other day we went exploring, looking for a church. I am still not sure whether we found it or not, but we had a lot of fun on the way, and discovered a little waterfall...Is this the Oldest Olive Tree in Cyprus?
We were out exploring in the Akamas the other day, and we came across this lovely old Olive Tree. I can't help wondering how long it has stood here...Good Pages To Visit
