Rambling on the Akamas
Towards Peyia

Turning left we see brown fields where once we saw green. I prefer the spring view, to be honest, but it still has its own charm.
Day of the Triffids

My wife calls these lupinesque flowers triffids. I dislike them, because they seem to grow easily in Cyprus, yet all my lupins died a sorry death.
Droushia Heights

Up towards Droushia, you can just make out the military building. We are heading back to Kato Arodes now, on a route we have not travelled in the past.
Old Field Markings

You can see in the scorched earth how the land used to be divided. It was obviously more heavily farmed in the past. In certain parts of Cyprus you can see miles of dry-stoned walls, marking old farm boundaries long-since abandoned.
A New Akamas Viewpoint

In spring this view will look spectacular. So we will see you here in a few months!
We often get asked how we come up with places to visit on our blogs. When we started, we were visiting places we had found geocaching. These days though, we just go out and see where we end up. Admitedly, this is a lot easier to do when you know your way around and can recognise distant landmarks. But you can do a bit of exploring without making a huge expedition out of it. We only had an hour to kill on this visit, but we still had plenty of fun, and came away with an old wartime relic.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
