The Grey Cliffs of Paphos - Part 2
Interesting Rock
I noticed this rock on the way up. It had a load of fossils in it, which I wasn't expecting.
Close Up
This is actually an imprint of a fossilised shell, rather than the fossil itself. So that is a hollow, rather than a bump.
The undergrowth up at the base of the cliff is really overgrown now. Since we published part 1, Max pointed out that Bing Maps had some satellite images from over 10 years ago of the area. In those pictures there is much less foliage, so most of this has sprung up fairly recently.
Mystery Hole?
I got my hopes up here, as there appeared to be a cave in the densest part of the undergrowth. However, when I got a bit closer I could see that it was actually just years of green waste that had been dumped over the back of a garden fence.
Odd Bottles
Nearby I found this pile of water bottles. Somebody had obviously dug them out of the undergrowth, but then they had left them here. And bearing in mind that "here" was halfway up the cliffs surrounded by dense vegetation, I have no idea what the purpose was. Perhaps somebody had been tidying stuff into piles and just forgotten to collect this particular one?
Anyway, if I revisit the area I shall bring a binliner with me.
