The Troodos Ice Festival
Every year in the Troodos Mountains, Mother Nature holds an ice festival. If you visit the area to go skiing or to throw a snowball at your wife, be sure to set aside some time to go off-piste and marvel at some of the exhibits on display.
Natural Christmas Decorations

If you can tear your eyes away from the ski slopes for a minute, this is the kind of display you can see. There will be a lot more pictures like this in this blog, but they don't lend themselves to much commentary. So first we will have a bit of information on Troodos Square and the condition of the roads.
More Snow!

I wrote about Troodos a few weeks ago. Yesterday (21st January) I returned with my wife and daughter, and there was a lot more snow.
Troodos Square Icicles

We set off early on Friday morning, and arrived at Troodos Square in good time. We wanted to get to the ski slopes as soon as possible, so didn't stop here. However, Alex did manage to take some shots on our way through. I loved these icicles.
Snow Plough

The roads are well maintained. We passed a few snough ploughs along the way. We also made a film of the conditions so you can judge for yourself whether you want to visit, for instance, tomorrow.
Now A Major FIlm
One thing I will say though, is if you do go tomorrow, go early. And check the news for latest information on roads. As I write this it is raining in Polemi, so it could well be snowing in the mountains.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
