Roudia Bridge
Knotty Trunk
This tree has always fascinated me, it is as if it's roots cannot make up their mind whether they are still roots or part of the trunk.
Walk the Plank
When I was here in March, I was tempted to use the knotty tree as a means of crossing the river. As you can see there is a lot more water in this shot than the last. However, this was as far as I got, as it was very slippery and we were an awful long way from any hospital...
Ancient Vs Modern
So this is how the ancients build a bridge.
(Incidently, you can really see the knots on the tree on this shot)
Ancient Wins
Now turn round, and you will see the modern bridge that has just been built. In fairness to modern life, it probably sprung up a lot more quickly than the Venetian Bridge, and is a lot easier to maintain. Plus, it makes finding the Venetian Bridge a lot easier.
To the right of this shot, high up in a tree and directly above the car park, somebody has tied a sculpted tin can. You may notice it spinning in the wind if you visit. So far the best guess on the forum to it's purpose is an insect trap, but one has to ask, why bother?
I will add some photos of the can if it is still there when we next visit, as it was a bit of a puzzle. I only noticed it when I was processing film on my GoPro.
Bridge Top
That's enough paddling. What is the top of the bridge like?
