Beat The Cold
The next exhibit shows how people dealt with the cold temperatures back in the day. Imagine how smelly life must have been then...
Ice Age Questions
How did they live during the Ice Age?
During the Ice Age, people sought to settle south because of the low temperatures. Initially they fought each other to define their space or to develop a new way of life. So people, now adapted to low temperatures and permanently settled, started hunting animals (Mammoths and other animals) mainly for food but also for warmth. Animal husbandry and agriculture developed. The population increased dramatically, and humanity was steadily on the road to civilization, a stage which, according to various theories, also defined the beginning of evolved humanity.
Civilisation Dawns
The Culture
People were no longer just hunters, but also artists, creating designs in large caves, making statues, baskets and elaborately decorated clothing. They conducted rituals, played music with bone flutes, and created many kinds of blades as their weapons.
It was a time of recovery, after the very difficult Ice Age.
