Paphos Seafront - What A Mess!

The Boy, The Fish, And The Offensive Tower

This pictures says a lot. In the foreground you have ugly graffiti, which has become a scourge of Paphos. For all I know it has become a scourge of the whole of Cyprus. But I haven't been out of Paphos for a while, so I can only speak for Paphos. Anyway, that is a problem that has to be dealt with before any more renovations are attempted. Otherwise, they will just get covered in thes ugly, uninspiring and occasionally highly offensive tags. Beyond the graffiti, you have beauty, in the form of a lovely statue. Recent history has taught us how precious that is though, and not to be taken for granted. Finally, beyond that, you have the new tower. A lot of people seem to think it was built illegally. But it wasn't. The law changed some time ago. It is all perfectly legal and above board. You don't have to like it, but to claim it exists because of brown envelopes is just wrong. Also, if you moan about it being there and think it is illegally built, you can';t very well moan at the Mayor for removing illegal frontages.

Of course, I am assuming that the awnings and signs contravened planning laws. That will no doubt be up to the Courts to decide, if the Shopkeepers take matters in that direction.

More Improvements

The concrete blocks appear to mark an access route for work being carried out behind the shopfronts.

The Clock Is Ticking...

At the far end of the Sea Front, the signs are still in place. For now.

How soon before these too are removed?

Talking Point

It looks like the owner of this establishment is trying to see if there is a way for him to protect his sign. I am of course only speculating here. I have no idea who that is.

Paphos Harbour Walkway Maintenance

Recently the Mayor Of Paphos announced numerous contracts for improving the sea front and harbour area. The contracts were not only for the introduction of new facilities though. Some of the money was allocated for maintenance and upkeep of the existing facilities. It looks like this maintenance is already underway, because the area between the castle and the walkway to Lighthouse Beach has been closed for maintenance. I flew the drone up to have a closer look...

Paphos Sea Front and Harbour

I've made a number of drone films recently of the Sea Front and Paphos Harbour. While I am filming, I also take the occasional picture, so thought it would be nice to show you some of them and add some information about how the various renovation works are progressing.
