More Clearing

I think this end has seen the most fundamental changes to the landscape so far. Hills are literally being moved.

Motorway or Quarry?

I think they are using some of the existing hills as raw materials. It makes it difficult to tell exactly where the actual motorway will run though.

WIlderness

I remember this area of the countryside well. I did an article on it a few years ago. My main observation was that it was like being on another planet as it was so isolated and rocky. So I don't think anybody will miss it. Well, I will, as it was fun to explore. But there are other places nearby just like it. From what I remember, not even the hunters bothered with the area, as it was so inhospitable.

In the top right of this picture you can just make out Paphos Municipal Dump. To the right of the picture, there are a number of car wrecking sites, connected by a road. Far beyond all that, you eventually get to the Ezousa Valley. I mention this because the Greens claimed that the new motorway would damage the Ezousa Valley. Clearly that's not actually the case.

Future Junction

Finally, this is where the motorways will join. I guess at some point there will be lane closures on the A6 as they construct a roundabout, but that is some way off yet.

So there you have it. The motorway is most definitely on its way, and work is progressing at a decent rate.

The Paphos to Polis Motorway - Part 1

A new motorway is coming to Paphos. It will link the existing A6 motorway to the North West coast of the island, reduce travel time, and aid congestion on the B7. That's the plan, anyway. Alternatively, it will destroy precious natural areas and be an expensive waste of money. We decided to take a look at the proposed route for ourselves, so now at least you will know exactly where the motorway will go. Possibly.

Paphos-Polis Motorway Update

It's been a few months since they started building the new motorway between Paphos and Polis. In phase one, they are constructing the first half, which runs from Paphos to Stroumbi. The other day I went to a few vantage points along the route to see how they are getting on.

Paradise and Hell

A little while ago we showed you Martiri Bridge and the delightful gorge that ran underneath it. We recently returned to the area to see why the locals call it Paradise and Hell, and had some great fun off-roading through the beautiful scenery.
