Water Feature
When we started exploring abandoned villages, I used to get quite excited when I found these water features. They seem rather mundane now though.
Follow The Arrow
On the far wall in the centre of the picture, you might just be able to make out a sign. That is an arrow pointing to your left. It takes you on the nature trail to the Akamas. You will be exploring the valley behind Avakas Gorge, and it is one of our favourite areas. We will deal with it another time though.
Back To The Square
Having established that I knew where the nature trail went, I returned to the main square. The houses here are all in good condition and inhabited.
Coffee Shop / Tavern
It turns out that on the other side of the square there is a fairly busy coffee shop. It may even have been a tavern. I was too early for my lunch, so I only saw people drinking coffee. However, the number of tables and chairs suggested that come meal time this was a popular eatery.
According to the village map we featureed earlier, this is in fact the "Community Coffee Shop". So now you know.
Easter Decoration
This was nice. I think it was an Easter decoration, though I guess it could have just been something to do with Spring.

We first stumbled upon Melandra last Autumn. We were trying to find an interesting route from Pano Panagia to Polis, and having visited a number of isolated villages, decided to venture off-road. Last spring we blogged about our visit to the abandoned village of Souskiou in the Diarizos Valley. We received numerous comments, some of which alluded to an ancient cemetery that lurked in the nearby hills. Well, this naturally piqued our curiosity, and we resolved to track them down. Over the next few months we made numerous excursions, and this is a summary of what we found...Cyprus Road Trip #2: Paphos - Coast to Coast
