Limni Mine

Move Along Now...

As I was poking around, a truck appeared and a Cypriot emerged. He told me he was security and asked me what I was doing. I pointed to my camera and said I was taking photographs. This seemed to puzzle him for a bit, until he asked me if I was English. I said that I was, and that seemed to satisfy him. Possibly he realised that English people would indeed be daft enough to stand in the midday heat and take photographs of old buildings just for the sake of it.

Still In Use?

I did get a look in through a small hole, and I could see some vehicles under taupalins. They looked very old though, before you get too excited. If you look at this picture. The only tracks you can see are from our car and the security guard's. There aren't any leading to the building itself.

And So, To Limni Pier

Ah Limni Pier, now this is a lovely place to go for a quick dip. Change into your trunks (or under-scuddies, if there is nobody else around) and nip to the end of the pier for a quick dip. At the moment, they have removed some of the steps down to the water, so you will have to use the rickety ladders at the sides to get back up again. But you can safely jump off the far end of the pier and into the water without fear of nutting yourself on a rock, so go and cool down.

The buildings here were all to do with the mine. Check that youtube clip for more images of them in action.

Towards Polis

This is the view from the pier towards Polis. Yesterday, there was a fire near the campsite. I do hope that the damage wasn't too severe. If you are swimming from the pier to the beach, be aware that this portion is fairly rocky. Not sharp rocks, more slippery, and a pain to walk on.

Limni Pier

Finally, the pier itself, as photogenic as ever.

You can visit Limni and just enjoy the pier. Or, you can take a drive up the track and see the mine itself, though that can get a bit bumpy. If you are very curious, and like adventure, you can hike up to the top, and enjoy stunning views. For now, there is no sign that it will get turned into a golf course, but you should never assume that this is always going to be the case...
