Limni Adventures
White Delight

Does anybody else find places like this strangely beautiful? I love this sort of place. I love the variety of colour, and I love the smell. It reminds me of Chemistry lessons long ago.

Lost In A Sea Of Blue Crystals

The blue colour here is a bit of a giveaway that this was once a Copper mine.
Sulphur?

Not just copper though. This would indicate (as would the smell) that there was a fair amount of sulphur around.
Foolish Gold

Here's a small lump of pyrite I found. You can see why it is called "Fools' Gold". It is less than a centimetre across, but looks quite impressive when magnified. If you do find bigger rocks containing pyrite and take them home, be careful how you display them. Don't let them get wet.
Veins and Stains

This is a much bigger rock, that contains a lot of pyrite. I put it outside, on our gravel. The gravel is supposed to be white to light grey in colour. However, after a few months the pebbles around the rock are stained brown, from the dissolving pyrite. So do bear this in mind.
Anyway, I hope you liked our return journey to Limni Mine. The rains have started again now, so the driving conditions will be more treacherous. If you decide to visit before next summer then drive carefully. It is not a good place to get stuck in the mud!
