Limni Adventures
View From Above

The reason I say you would have to walk up is because the entrance to the mine has a locked gate. Or had. As you can see in this picture, the gate is now open.

The Mine From Above

I was curious about that, so when we had parked up at our destination I buzzed the drone up to the top of the mine to see if there was anything new to observe. Something has been happening in the bottom right...
Closer View

That big greyish splodge in the bottom right wasn't there a couple of years ago. So the mine is still getting filled in. My guess is that they dumped all the dirty sand they removed from the beach near Limni Pier here.
Third Fork

Anyway, I will have to investigate that on another day. On this trip we continued along the main track. We eventually arrived here. This was a bit puzzling. We know for a fact that during the winter months a river runs through here. I wonder if they have put in some pipes, or are they just being optimistic? We shall find out in a few months, no doubt.
Take the third fork.
Final Destination

This is where we had been aiming to get to. It is like a side-mine I guess, away from the main one. Or perhaps it is where they dumped a lot of the waste that was left over from their mining? I don't know. What I do know though, is that it is full of lots of interesting little crystals, and banks of chemical-filled soil that has a lovely metallic smell.

They won't win any awards, but they are easy to find, and make a change from looking for shells on the beach...

Limni Mine is an abandoned Copper and Sulphur Mine, which at some point in the future may become a golf course. With that in mind we thought we better take a look around before the golf balls start flying...Good Pages To Visit
