We booked our table for 12:30, and when we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty. It soon started filling up though, as the lunchtime crowd arrived.

Mini Vineyard

The "roof" of the main dining area consists of grape vines. At the moment they are ripe for harvest. If your a tourist you will love this, but to be honest, our house in Polemi is surrounded by vineyards and grapes are plentiful, so this was a bit of a busman's holiday for us.

The Taste

So, how did we find the food? My wife and daughter both liked the pork best, whereas I preferred the chicken. However, they were both delicious. The meat was top quality, and the chips were light and fluffy, despite being rather huge. The salad was nice too, but really, the star of the show is undoubtedly the souvla itself. In some restaurants, it will be too dry, or too tough. At the Last Castle though. it was cooked perfectly. The meat fell off the chicken, and the pork was suitably meaty. Some places serve pork souvla that is mainly fat. This was different. This was the real deal.

And The Cost?

Of course, decent meat doesn't come cheap. That is reflected in the price. Our bill came to 55 euros. This was for three mixed souvlas, three soft drinks and a large bottle of water. I am guessing this puts the souvla at 16 euros a head. This is slightly steep for souvla, compared to what you will get charged in a lot of village taverns. However, the meat really is very nice, the chips are delicious, and you won't find a better view. So you really do get what you pay for.

So what are you waiting for? They close during the cooler months, so make sure you phone first before driving up that bumpy road. But do go if you get the chance. You won't regret it.
