Lara Bay
Those Regulations Again

The regulations have been slightly expanded upon on the sign at this end of the beach. Please do take head of the no driving and umbrellas rules. There are others too, but these are the ones that seem to get broken the most.

We Want Information

There are two information kiosks. One by the car park and one on the beach. I am not going to reproduce all the information shown on the kiosks, but will include a few pics so you know what to expect. They are worth reading though.

Turtle Facts

Lara Bay is a safe haven for Green and Loggerhead Turtles. The wardens are there to protect them and give them a helping hand.
Turtles In A Tank

If you make it to the information kiosk on the beach itself, you can see a tank containing several turtles. Believe it or not, this tank is here to deter people from digging up the nests in order to look at baby turtles. I mean, come on! How dumb are some people? This sort of tank shouldn't be necessary. Actually it is a useful tank in its own right, as kids can see first hand little turtles swimming. However, the reason for the tank should be educational. Having to do this because people have been digging up nests is just awful. Some people have just no common sense at all.
I could rant about this all day, but you get my point. Please, if you do decide to visit Lara Bay (and it is well worth a visit), treat the area with respect. Obey the signs, don't bring umbrellas or dogs, and definitely, definitely, don't try to dig up the nests. Just watch the wardens do their thing, and if you are lucky, get to see the little baby turtles make their first, tentative steps into the ocean.
