Turtle Power!

No, Lara Bay is famous for its turtles. This is a typical nest. The wardens put the metal frame down because it prevents foxes from digging the eggs up. It also prevents humans from sitting on them, I guess. You will have seen a few of these dotted along the beaches of the Akamas, and all the way up the Polis Coastline. But at Lara Bay, they are everywhere.

The upper reaches of the beach are covered in turtle nests. The eggs buried in the nests in this picture will be hatching any time between now and September.

If you look closely in the sand, you can see where the baby turtles have hatched and made their way down to the sea.

This nest, for instance, has a lot of activity in the sand, so some baby turtles have already hatched. However, not every baby turtle has been able to hatch yet, so to give them a hand, the wardens step in...
Wardens At Work

The people prodding the metal frame are actually wardens. Once they feel the fittest turtles have had sufficient chance to make the journey on their own, they assist the remainder.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
