Geroskipou Shrine Caves Revisited
Feeding Troughs
Indeed, if you go under the arches you will see a long feeding trough. Obviously not still in use, but at one time lots of animals would have had their food here.
Relatively New
Though the farm is obviously abandoned, and fairly old, it isn't an ancient structure. A look at Kitchener's Victorian Map yields nothing showing here. However, a building with a well defined wall around the courtyard is visible on a satellite view of the 60s.
As Below, So Above
Once I had finished exploring the old farm, I headed back towards the car. I noted when I climbed the steps again that there were some grates visible on the rocks above the Shrine Caves. This was worth investigating.
Strange Marks
I had assumed that the grates covered holes that went down to the cave network, but that was not in fact the case. There was a circular pattern in the rock, and a channel leading down to the two holes. They were indentations though, rather than the tops of tunnels.
I'm guessing the channels and recesses were something to do with the production of olive oil. Though I am not entirely sure how.

Geroskipou Neapolis Is Coming
Way back in 2019 we reported on an area of Geroskipou which was going to be the site of a new Business DIstrict called the Neapolis. Near the shops on the Paphos / Geroskipou border, is a little track that runs below a cliff through some farmland. A sign indicates that there is a church down there, so one day I thought I would investigate. Sure enough, there was a little church, but there was so much more besides...Good Pages To Visit
