Swing Time
We hadn't driven all this way just to see a bridge. There is a little waterhole a few hundred metres downstream that is ideal for a dip. Given how hot it was today, I was looking forward to this.
Where's The Dam?
However, all was not well. There used to be a dam that spanned the river here. It wasn't huge but it raised the water level upstream by about a foot. This makes all the difference if you are falling into the water from a swing. If you look here, you can see where a bulldozer has knocked the dam away. Presumably they were just turning round, and didn't realise the significance of the dam, but it is a shame.
Take Care
So if you do decide to go on the swing here, do take care when getting off. The traditional technique of falling backwards into the water isn't advisable any more as it is quite shallow now.
Upstream
It was fine for a paddle though. It still comes up to my waist in the deepest area, and it was very cooling.
More From Alex
Once we had finished our paddle, we dried off and continued down the track. The bulldozer that had destroyed the dam had also been clearing the route a bit, so I was confident we would be able to head back towards Polemi in this direction.

The Camel Trail Venetian Bridges

Now that we have covered the route from Vretsia to Kelefos, let's return to the subject of Venetian Bridges. This time, we will feature Roudia Bridge. For years this eluded us, as we drove past it without realising it was there. With the help of the previous blog, you should now be able to locate it and know where to park the car. So let's take a look at the bridge itself...Roudia Bridge Time Warp
An old photograph, showing a young man standing on top of a broken Venetian Bridge got us excited recently. It looked a bit like Roudia, but the rock outcrop in the background seemed in the wrong place. There was only one way to find out for sure...Good Pages To Visit
