Ayia Napa Is Gearing Up!
Last week we went on our annual pilgrimage to Protaras, Paralimni and Ayia Napa. What would we find when we got there? Would anything be open, would the beaches be crowded? Is it worth visiting? Read on and find out. In our first blog we will concentrate on the seaside.
Nissi Beach
I do like to be beside the seaside, though I don't want to make a song and dance about it. We shall start our roundup at Nissi Beach. This is one of Ayia Napa's most popular beaches and it is easy to see why.
All Is Quiet
However, a midweek walk out onto the sand reveals that it was now very quiet. Ok, there are people by the beach bar, but further away there were row upon row of empty sunbeds. This is hardly surprising though, given that tourist flights had only just started up again. So, I am not going to concentrate on tourist numbers, but look at how social distancing is being applied.
Here's One I Prepared Earlier
Now, a couple of years ago, I did a virtual tour of this beach. This is a screenshot from that tour, and you can see how many more sunbeds there were then. In order to comply with social distancing, a lot of these have been removed.
New Tour
I made a new tour using the posh camera. You can see how empty the beach was.
Read The Signs
The beaches had prominent information signs, which was a good idea. There were also lots of bins around. I thought when I made the tour that the bins were a new addition, but when I looked at the old tour I saw the bins were there then too. I guess it is just a very tidy beach. Bournemouth, please take note.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
