Archimandrita Bridge
Flash Photography

So, there is more than just a bridge to see here. As well as the buildings, nature throws up plenty of charming sights as well. I love these cosy-looking acorns.
Bamboo Forest

We also found a bamboo forest with a strange ditch in it. However, the bamboo turned out to be the most exciting thing at this location; the ditch soon petered out.
Flood Control Dam #2

Back at the flood control dam now, it is worth pointing out these dates. When we started blogging, I assumed these were odd codes left by urban explorers. We then learned that they were in fact left by Water Inspectors, checking insect levels in the area. I mention this now because our blogs are now a lot more popular than they were 18 months ago. Each one gets thousands rather than hundreds of views. However, I don't want to repeat the same information over and over too much, as it will get boring for the long-time readers. So if you are new to these blogs, be sure to look through our previous articles. There are nearly 200 now, and there is something for everybody.
Distant Archimandrita

You can just about work out some of the houses of Archimandrita on the horizon there.
One Final Bridge Shot

Well, that was Archimandrita Bridge. As Venetian Bridges go it isn't the best example, though it is fairly unusual in that it is such a minimal construction compared to its bigger neighbours. Given the amount of earthquakes Cyprus has had since the Venetian period, it is a credit to their building ability that it is still standing. It is definitely worth a visit, if you are in a 4x4, or you can hike from the road to Kato Archimandrita. If you are on a week-long holiday then I would concentrate on the justifiably more popular Roudia and Kelefos Bridges. However, if you have time to spare, then pack a picnic and come see.

Abandoned Villages - Kato Archimandrita
A few weeks ago we visited the sleepy hamlet of Archimandrita. We touched briefly then, on its abandoned neighbour, but got distracted with other things before we were able to visit it and tell you what we found. Better late than never, here is our look at Kato Archimandrita, a village abandoned due to its remoteness and ruled now by goats.
Archimandrita
If you have ever driven up to the Troodos through the wind farms above Kouklia, you will have passed through Archimandrita. You probably drove straight through, as it is only the start of your journey. Next time, set off an hour or two earlier and allow yourself time to explore this little jewel...
Roudia Bridge
Now that we have covered the route from Vretsia to Kelefos, let's return to the subject of Venetian Bridges. This time, we will feature Roudia Bridge. For years this eluded us, as we drove past it without realising it was there. With the help of the previous blog, you should now be able to locate it and know where to park the car. So let's take a look at the bridge itself...

Elia Bridge
Like its more famous neighbour, Elia Bridge spans the Diarizos River in the south western corner of Paphos Forest. Along with Roudia and Kelefos, it forms the Venetian Bridges Nature Trail, which is a lovely route, even if you do opt to drive, rather than hike it's distance. Let's take a quick peek...
Venetian Bridges: Skarfos
We have been meaning to look at Venetian Bridges for some time, so today I thought I would start with Skarfos, as this is easily accessible and is the Western-most Venetian Bridge that I am aware of. Situated just off the road to Simou from the B7, it may not be the most spectacular bridge Cyprus has to offer, but there are enough other attractions nearby to make it worth your journey, as you shall see...Good Pages To Visit

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
