Beyond Fabrica Hill
The Pillar Itself

To the north of the atrium there is a pillar, where according to local tradition, the people from Paphos tied St Paul and whipped him thirty-nine times. Surprisingly, medieval travellers make no mention of the pillar, but only of an underground prison of the apostle.
According to the Acts of the Apostles, Barnabas, Paul and Mark visited Paphos in 45 AD during their first missionary journey to Cyprus. In Paphos, the then capital of the island and the seat of the Roman governor, St Paul preached Christianity. The Roman governor Sergius Paulus, converted to this new religion, triggering the Christianisation of Cyprus.

Ayia Kyriaki

According to the sign, this church dates from the fifteenth century. More on this in a later blog though.

A Young Hedgehog

Big Ears

We first spotted the hedgehog when we took a diversion to see St Paul's Pillar. He was quite an athletic little chap until I got the camera out, and then he froze. By the time we got back from the pillar though, he had at least turned round. I never realised that hedgehogs had such big ears.

Let's Take a Look At Fabrica Hill
We've driven past Fabrica Hill many times over the years, and often wondered what was up there. (It's the area of land diagonally opposite The Mall, in case you didn't know). After comments and photos started appearing on the forum about the erection of a raised walkway, we decided a visit was overdue. With no expectations of what we would see when we got there, other than a vague feeling of disappointment that despite what it looked like, they weren't building a roller coaster, this is what we found.
