Mystery Tree
This sign was a bit of a puzzle. It translates as Pernia, but I could find very little online about that word.
Περνιά - Pernia
However, if I searched for the word in Greek, I had a bit more success. It turns out that Pernia is a type of oak that has holly-like leaves.
Pernia is an evergreen broad-leaved shrub or small tree up to 10 m tall. The fruit is an acorn with a rounded top that is greenish in color at first and brown when ripe. The leaves are simple, alternately arranged, leathery, with an intense green color on the upper surface, hairless or hairy on the lower, with strongly spiky-toothed edges. It blooms from March to May.
Familiar Foliage
This name of this tree is a lot more familiar. Indeed, there is even a tavern in Giolou named after it. And Simou possesses a very old one in its main square.

More Vineyards
We are on the latter stages of the circular walk now. We are looking across some vineyards towards the start of the loop.
Distant Paphos Forest
Looking the other way, you get a nice view of the hills around Pano Panagia. In the middle ground, you can see a grey strip of rocks. A lot of this is gypsum and it is near to the village of Letymbou.
Homeward Bound
We're nearly at the end of the loop now. If we turn right down this track we will be back at the water feature we passed at the start.

After the excesses of Christmas we thought a few brisk walks were in order. If you are not used to exercise, then you should start gently. Fortunately, in Kallepeia, there is a Nature Trail that is only 1.5km long and a perfect way to ease yourself back into shape.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
