As I couldnt' go forwards, I had a look around. The area to the left was rocky, but easy to climb.

Mystery Field

I soon found myself in this rather boggy field. It had obviously been ploughed at some point in the not-too-distant past, but I couldn't see how. I followed the field around, expecting it to lead to another track which would take me to the church. But instead I came to a dead end. There was a small cliff dropping down to another field. This is why I was puzzled by the field. How did it get ploughed? I couldn't see any track that led to it.

The Only Way Is Up

So, the only way to get to the chapel, is to climb the rock. It isn't a difficult climb, but do bear in mind that it is composed mainly of gypsum, so is fairly crumbly in places.

From the top, it was clearly that the only road to the church was through that closed gate. The house behind the gate seemed unfinished and unlived in.
