Mystery Morgue?
I remembered this from my previous visit. I still can't believe it was a morgue.
Does anybody have any other suggestions? It is basically a small room with a large solid table in the middle, and a sink at the corner.
This was the lowest of the buildings in the hospital. The internal walls were obviously rather flimsy and have long-since been vandalised. There was a nice view from the window though.
Another Mine View
I wonder what this view looked like in the Eighties? I wouldn't have liked to work in the mines though, and I certainly wouldn't have wanted my wife to work there. Natural beauty can hide genuine hardship and suffering. We should look at places like this and thank our lucky stars...

If you have taken the time to visit this place and are now standing here by the possible morgue, then that staircase will lead you to the place I mentioned earlier, where I told you to keep straight.
Should you visit? Certtainly! Also check out the remains of Pano Amiantos on the other side of the road, and visit the Mine Museum and the Nature Park. There is plenty more to see in Cyprus than the coastal area, and it is cooler up in the mountains!

Amiantos Mine
Amiantos Mine can be found in the Troodos Mountains. It used to be the largest asbestos mine in Europe, but now it is gathering rust. For obvious reasons you cannot explore the mine itself, but there is a nearby visitor centre and nature reserve. The Cyprus Asbestos Mine is situated right in the heart of Troodos forest. Following a continuous operation of 84 years, the mine came to a sudden closure in 1988, leaving behind large volumes of waste tips, a badly designed mine pit and an unacceptable environmental scar to an otherwise heavily forested natural beauty area. It also left behind a hospital, which now stands abandoned on the other side of the valley. Amiantos Hospital was abandoned in the Eighties, when the nearby mine closed down. along with the nearby village of Pano Amiantos. Now it is slowly being reclaimed by nature while at the same time being used as a sketchpad by the local graffiti artists. If you want some easy-access Urban Exploring in an amazin location, it is a good place to head for.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
