Paphos Forest Mine
Interesting Pool
If you remember, we came here after seeing some pictures of a nice lake. This wasn't it, though the water was of a similar colour.
Empty Spaces
When we looked at Limni Mine, there was a flat plain at the top. It became apparent on further reading, that that plain was man made, and was a result of them refilling the huge hole they had dug during the course of their mining. That must have been a huge operation.
I think the area in this photograph was formed differently. I think it was formed by people clearing the vegetation and dumping the mine's waste soil here. The actual pit face was where we were before, and at the lake which we have yet to find.
Helicopter Landing Pad
It may be just me, but when I hear the term "helicopter landing pad" it conjours up images of jungle adventures and Indiana Jones. The reality is slightly less glamourous.
Still No Lake
When we first visited the mine, last November, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time hunting iron pyrite chunks. There are still loads lying scattered about the area, if that is your thing. However, this took up quite a bit of time, and we still hadn't found the lake I wanted to photograph. It was clear that more than one visit was going to be necessary.
Urban Exploring
So, knowing that we would be returning another day to look for the lake, I instead concentrated on recording any man-made structures I could find.
