Venus Beach Has Come Of Age
Up!
Now, pay attention. I need to get serious for a bit. See that bit of beach beyond the sunbeds over there? Don't plonk a towel down and go for a swim there. It is unprotected by the artificial reefs. Indeed, from memory, the only incident they have had here since the renovation of the area was because somebody went swimming there. The riptides haven't gone away, they just get blocked by the reef. But if you aren't swimming in the protected area, you are in danger.
The Protected Area
The protected area runs all the way to that ridge you can see towards the top of the picture. Note too that there is plenty of beach that doesn't have a sunbed on it.
Be Careful
I would be careful swimming in this bit, on the far left of the beach. It too is beyond the protection of the artificial reef.
Fifty Fifty
An overhead shows how even the distribution of the sunbeds is. If you are bringing your own parasol and sunbeds, plonk them on the right hand side. It is a simple system and works well.
For Comparison
Compare that to the famous Nissi Beach in Ayia Nappa, which we visited last week. It is pretty much wall-to-wall sunbeds there. The only area which is available for towels, other than a little bit at the front, is next to the main beach. But the water there is full of algae blooms and does not look a nice place to swim in.
