Venus Beach Has Come Of Age
A few years ago the Venus Beach area was a fairly rough trail over a rocky part of the Paphos Shoreline. It was notorious for rip-tides and wasn't a safe place to swim. Now though, it is a glorious, safe and sandy shore which is proving very popular with tourists and locals alike.
View From Above
We shall begin with an aerial shot of Venus Beach showing the hotels close to it and the large expanse to its rear, which gets used as a car park. It should be noted that the entrance to the car park is ot the left, by Capital Coast Hotel. If you try and get there from the Venus Beach Hotel, on the right, you will find your way is blocked. There are plans to turn at least part of the car park into private villas, but as yet we have seen nothing concrete.
Up Coast
Directly behind Venus Beach you will find the recently renovated Paphos Boardwalk. This runs all the way from Geroskipou Beach to Sandy Beach in Lemba. There are plans for it to continue all the way to Agios Georgios Harbour. There is a long way to go before that happens, but the route that is in place now is really nice and great for a decent walk. We shall cover part of it in this article, starting from the Tombs of the Kings, which is just to the left of this shot. In the distance you can see the Elysium Hotel and, further to the right, a yellow strip which is the Lighthouse Beach.
Tombs Of The Kings
Being an archaeological site, I am not allowed to fly the drone over Tombs of the Kings without getting permission. Besides which, given that they are tombs, and hence, mostly underground, there is not a lot to see from above anyway.
Shade Point
What is somewhat lacking along the boardwalk is shelter. At certain points they planted trees, though most of them appear to have withered and died. A bit of shade would certainly be useful.
Tombs II
Here's a better view of the entire Tombs of the Kings site.
