The Blue Lagoon

The big feature about the Blue Lagoon, other than its essential blueness, is the island in the middle.

Buoys

If you do hire a boat, play close attention to those buoys.
Go For A Swim

The blue colour at the blue lagoon stems from the sandy bottom. However, around the rocks and the island there are plenty of nooks and crannies for fish to hide in. It is a great place to go snorkelling.
Snorkelling in the Blue Lagoon
Here's a little film of us doing just that. We swam around the island while we were recording this. We didn't see a huge amount of fish but there were lots of tiny fry swimming around us. Odd that a baby fish is called a fry. Bit of black humour going on there, considering their ultimate destiny. But I looked it up, and that's what they are called, so there you have it.
The Grand Tour
And here's our virtual tour of the Blue Lagoon and the island. If you make it to the island yourself, make sure you are wearing appropriate footwear. You can buy swimming shoes from a lot of the kiosks in the area, and they cost under €10. Paps sell them too. Believe me, they will make your experience a whole lot more enjoyable.
