Ayios Georgios Koumanon Monastery
Picturesque
I have to say, it is in a lovely location.
Distant Road
If you are contemplating visiting the monastery. You are better off taking the road from Mesana. The tracks can be a bit daunting, but if you are in a 4x4 and like a bit of adventure it is a fun route.
Water Mill
On the way to the church, we spotted this old ruin, which is presumably the remnants of a water mill. There are actually a lot of these ruins dotted around the landscape, and I no longer feel the need to explore every one of them I pass, so we gave this one a miss.
Outside The Church
And here, finally is the church itself. We parked on the other side and made our way around to this door.
Inside
And here we are inside. Now, like most churches we come across in the wilds, there is no lighting. It is either disabled at the mains, or the bulbs are transported to and from the churches, presumably with the priest. If you look in this picture, you can see an electricity cable running from left to right, and on the right hand side is light socket, with no bulb.
There are also lots of lamps, and candles are fairly abundant too.
When we visit these places, we wouldn't dream of lighting the lamps or candles, so to stand any chance of getting some half-decent photographs, you need to make sure you keep the door open. You should also use a tripod, if you have one, as the low light will mean longer exposure times and more chance of a wobble.
