Magnificent Memorial

This memorial looks stunning. There is something eerily defiant about the birds.

Close Up

The Cypriot emblem is a white dove carrying an olive branch in it's beak. Clearly, these birds are not doves.

I had to look it up but that is what that design is.

Newer Wreaths

Wreaths are still laid here. The names correspond to the passengers and crew.

Rest In Peace

Two of the passengers appear to be buried here, according to these crosses we found in a little alcove. Perhaps those wreaths were placed in July, to mark the 15th anniversary?

So, there you have it, two very different memorials marking similar accidents, in close proximity. It would seem a weird coincidence until you remember how close the location is to the airport.

Now, before you dash out to visit this site, just hold your horses for a bit. The next blog will be a guest publication, but after that I will be visiting a location very close to this. So if you like seeing this places in the flesh, wait until that has been published to save you making two journeys.

Mandria Mysteries

Today's blog is about a funny little place we found a few years ago while geocaching. It is also about some other relics we discovered while researching for this article. Together they demonstrate that you don't have to travel far from Paphos in order to find adventure. There are a number of mysteries here: What is the ancient monument? Why are the pill boxes so close together? Whatever happened to the Michalis Party Tavern? For more questions than answers, read on...
