Going Down

It has to be said that the drone is great for getting angles you would never normally be able to see.

I flew the drone through this bridge, for an action film. It was fairly noisy, as the drone controller emits beeps if you get close to an obstacle, but it emerged the other side, and zoomed happily up into the sky.

Paphos Forest Again

I flew the drone back upstream towards the church, and then around in an arc up and over the front. On the drive up I had noticed some abandoned buildings in the valley, and I wanted to try and snap a picture, to see if they were worth further investigation.

Old Ruins

Yes, I could see a fair number of ruins there. I looked at the Victorian map and there is nothing showing, so they probably sprung up in the last hundred years. Definitely unfinished business though. Besides, there also appears to be a fairly large church in the middle of nowhere, according to the map. Another trip beckons...

Fairwell, Old Friend

Satisfied with my picture, I started flying the drone back to my vantage point, at the side of the reservoir. On the way, inexplicably, it started spinning at a very fast speed. I thought the gimbal had broken to start with, but all of a sudden, the drone was completely disconnected, and vanished.

It isn't nice to see nearly two grand's worth of kit vanish in front of you, so I went online to ask for help. Fortunately the drone was still in warranty, and DJI asked me to send them the flight logs. While I was looking them up on the Controller (I had no idea that you could view past flight routes, it is quite fascinating), I found copies of all the pictures I had taken that flight. None of the film was saved, as that was on the drone memory chip. But at least I had these final pictures. So these pictures mark as a fitting tribute to my beloved drone. Incidentally, when you see the film of the Reservoir Drive, this will also explain the blues music I used for the soundtrack.

And the good news is that DJI looked at the flight logs and ruled out pilot error. They are sending me a new replacement drone which will be here in a few days. Yay!

Panagia Chrysopateritissa Church is tucked away on the banks of Pomos Reservoir, in the outskirts of the Paphos Forest. If you fancy a break from the summer heat, or just like exploring hidden Cyprus, then it is well worth a visit.

The Pomos Coastline

It is time to bid farewell to 2021. I don't think many people will miss it, to be frank, but we've got through it so lets hope that 2022 is better. In our final blog of the year we return once again to Pomos. I took my drone for a spin there, and got some nice shots of the coastline you would normally need a boat to see.
