Pomos Reservoir Church
Panagia Chrysopateritissa Church is tucked away on the banks of Pomos Reservoir, in the outskirts of the Paphos Forest. If you fancy a break from the summer heat, or just like exploring hidden Cyprus, then it is well worth a visit.
Hidden Gem
As you drive past Pomos Reservoir, this is all you will see of the church. It is set slightly below the road level, so do keep a look out if you decide to visit.
Secret Shrine
There are picnic tables at road level, as long as plenty of places to park, so get out and have a wander.
This shrine was covered up. We have seen this on other shrines too, I believe it has some religious significance, and I vaguely remember similar things happening in Catholic churches back in the UK. i think it was related to Easter but I can't be sure.
Church Graveyard
We shall have a look at the graveyard later, but as you pass it on the way from the car park to the church I thought I would mention it here. There are toilets in the building beyond the graveyard too, which is worth knowing.
Old Monastery
Apparently, the church used to be part of an ancient monastery, and this is all that remains.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
