The construction has been on-off for a while. There were reports about problems with the land, but all that is a thing of the past.

This is how the work was reported in the press, back in 2020:

Work is underway to construct a transit station on the Tombs of the Kings Road in Paphos.

The work marks the start of the implementation of the project ‘Creation of a network of public transport and public hygiene infrastructures in Paphos and Geroskipou’, the municipality said.

The total expenditure will be €7.61m.

The Build-Operate-Transfer project includes the creation of a large modern bus terminal in the area “Karavella” and two transit and bus parking spaces, one on Tombs of the Kings road and the second in the parking lot of the archaeological park at Limanaki, Paphos harbour.

The project also includes the creation and installation of 196 ‘smart’ bus stops in Paphos and Geroskipou, and the creation of 30 modern public sanitation spaces.

The construction is expected to be completed within 18 months. The contractor will operate the system for five years.

In this shot you can see where the bus station will be in relation to Kings Avenue Mall. You can also see the new tower / monstrous carbunkle (delete as you see fit) and if you look carefully you can see the new walkway.

Vintage Cyprus Buses

A year ago we had to visit the Department of Road Transport, off the Mesogi Road. While there I noticed three old-style Cyprus buses parked in the carpark. I returned a year later, and they were still there, so I thought I would photograph them for posterity. I also found some more modern friends of theirs, who's retirement was a bit less pleasant...

Last Bus To Simou

While you might meet one in use up in the mountains, most vintage buses in Cyprus have been retired from service. We featured a few that now reside in the Driving Test Centre car park, back in 2018. However, we were recently visiting Evretou, and spotted this beauty on our way back home to Polemi. The sun was beginning to set, and this lovely lady was looking majestic.
