Paphos Easter 2023

In case you are wondering why Easter is a week later in Cyprus, here is a googled explanation:

The Greek Orthodox Church celebrates Easter on a different date because of a difference in the date of Passover. Since the council of Nicea in 325 CE, the Catholic and Protestant Churches have used the Gregorian calendar to determine the day of Easter, which falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. The Greek Orthodox Church still follows the old Julian calendar, which calculates the date of Easter differently. This means the two churches may celebrate Easter on the same day, or they may celebrate it a few weeks apart.

I don't remember this one from last year.

Are Easter decorations a thing in other countries? I don't recall seeing any when we lived in the UK, but other places might have them. Have you seen any elsewhere?

I was going to take pictures of more of the decorations, but I came down with a bout of tonsilitis, and have been stuck indoors for the last few days. Before I succumbed though, I was able to get one picture of an elusive old friend. Yes, it is Chicken Bigfoot. We last showed him a few years ago, but he hasn't been around for a while. Well he seems to have had a new paint job, and is now out on display again in Geroskipou.

Anyway, Happy Easter, whether you celebrated it last weekend or in a few days time. Just remember that all the shops will be shut.

Happy Easter

We were out doing our Annual Easter Egg Hunt this morning. It took us down through the Esouza Valley, and finally to the sea. I won't be doing a blog article on the final part of this journey, as it isn't in the same league as the two sections I have previously blogged about. However, we did stumble across this shrine. At first glance, I took it as a typical shrine you see fairly frequently in Cyprus. However, a second glance revealed it to be rather unusual.
