From White River Beach to Arodes
Still Falling

We haven't been down this route in over a year. That big rock is still sliding down the cliff.

Once And Future Rings

Now, this bit of wall looks distinctly unremarkable. However, it does have some Liesegang Rings in it. They are fairly temperamental though. The cliff face is slowly eroding, and each time bits of it fall off the rings are either exposed or re-hidden. This time, they were pretty indistinct, but in a few months they will no doubt be confusing tourists once again. If you see them and haven't read the article about them, they aren't fossils, but a geological phenomenon.
Wide Open Plains

Looks like there might be a bit of rain heading for the mountains again...
Distant Ineia

In the distance we can make out Ineia. Our final destination is Arodes, to the right of this picture. From there we will hit the main road, and head back to Polemi via Kathikas and Stroumpi.
Route Map

This is the route we took. If they do ever implement all the planned changes to the Akamas, I do hope that routes like this do not just become tarmaced B roads. I appreciate that accessibility is an important factor, but over-tourism could have a terrible, lasting effect on the countryside here. The Akamas is an area of outstanding beauty. It needs to be treated sensitively and with respect.

Nothing beats exploring the Akamas by car. A decent 4x4 can take you to places you would never normally find on foot, and the aircon can be a real life-saver. Some routes into the Akamas are bumpier than others. In this blog take a relatively bump free route which would suite the more cautious amongst you.
Liesegang Rings in the Akamas
As 2016 draws to a close we decided to take a final trip to the Akamas. We have been trying to locate some interesting fossils we saw a few years ago, and the last couple of times we had tried we had ended up somewhere else. We found the right route this time though.
