The Abandoned Village of Theletra - Part 2

Urrgghh

As if the threat of fig pimples wasn't enough, I must have brushed through an insect nest at one point, because I looked down at my arm to see lots of tiny maggots on it. I managed to flick them all off but it wasn't very pleasant. It would have been lunch for Bear Grylls though.

Proceed With Caution

As well as fig trees, I also had to clambour over building rubble. Just take it slowly and you will be fine. It is important to make sure you can get back to where you are before picking a particular route though. If you get stuck up here you will have to shout very loudly to be heard.

Cup of Tea?

Gosh, somebody left in such a hurry that they forgot their tea strainer.

Theletra Heights

We are nearly at the top of the village again now. What amazes me is that there is absolutely no hint of any sort of road up here now. Nature has completely taken over. The paths are all overgrown.

A Nice Arch

This is a kitchen of some description. Every time I see an arch like this it makes me smile a bit. When I first started writing blogs about Cyprus, I remember reading up on the abandoned village of Foinikas, as that was, and still is, one of my favourite places to visit. Great play was made about the impressive arches in the buildings there, which were unique to the area. There were lots of pictures of the arches too. However, on closer inspection, you soon see that all the pictures are of the same arch, from different angles. There is only one arch in Foinikas, and you do find them elsewhere. Here, for instance. The moral here is to not believe everything you read on the internet.

From Miliou To Theletra

While we were exploring the sulphur springs of Miliou a few weeks ago, we couldn't help but notice a village in the distance. When we realised that it was the abandoned village of Theletra, we were surprised, as we hadn't appreciated how close the two places were. So we thought we would find a scenic route between the two locations...
