A Night Of Champions At Cap St Georges

Published 17th of April, 2026

An unforgettable evening unfolded at the Closing & Award Ceremony of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026, graciously hosted at the magnificent Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort.

We are sharing these amazing pictures and comment from the Official Press Release.

Set against the breathtaking coastline of Cyprus, the celebration brought together world chess leaders, distinguished guests, champions, and friends from across the globe for a truly prestigious occasion.

Situated amidst a region of invaluable historic heritage, the resort stands as a unique sanctuary where Queen Cleopatra is believed to have built a school for her son, Caesarion on Yeronissos Island, close to the site where the Temple of Apollo once stood—echoing the timeless cultural energy that defines the Cap St Georges area since antiquity.

As the tournament reached its grand conclusion, guests witnessed chess at its highest level—an extraordinary display of focus, resilience, and strategic brilliance. More than a competition, the FIDE Candidates 2026 reaffirmed Cyprus’ position as a destination capable of hosting world-class events of exceptional prestige.

The evening honored two outstanding champions: Javokhir Sindarov, who delivered a record-breaking performance with the highest score ever achieved in this format (10/14), and Vaishali Rameshbabu, who made history as the first Indian winner of the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament, securing her place in the 2026 Women’s World Championship.

To mark their achievements, the resort announced that their suites will permanently bear their names. Cap St Georges extends its sincere gratitude to FIDE, the organizers, players, and all contributors to this remarkable event, celebrating a legacy of excellence and global connection and feel honored to have created memories worthy of champions—and proud that Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort will remain part of the enduring story of world chess.
