Skarfos Revisited
Worth A Trip
So come and check the bridge out. You can find it off the Simou - Polis road. Coming up to Simou from the B7, it is signposted on your left. You can drive there in any car, and it is well worth a visit. Let's face it, you aren't going to want to try and get to Roudia Bridge at the moment, so why not go here instead?
There used to be a geocache here somewhere. I wonder if it survived the renovation?
As I said, the authorities have done a great job of looking after this bridge. If we as residents or visitors keep our part of the bargain, and visit the site (take your rubbish away with you though!) it will encourage them to look after our places too. Last year (or the year before, I can't remember) they found another Venetian Bridge in the Ezoousa Valley, near the sea. They buried that, to protect it until they had a chance to restore it properly. It would be great if that was fully restored too. However, they would also need to clear out an awful lot of rubbish from the area, as it is a bit of a dumping ground and quite an eye-sore.
Skarfos Mill
While we are here, it would be rude not to mention Skarfos Mill. You can see more pictures of the mill in our previous blog on the bridge (see link below). It is very well preserved compared to most water mills in Cyprus, and worth checking out if you come and see the bridge. There is also another structure in the nearby fields, though I imagine that would be very muddy at the moment.
Nicely Cleared
You can clearly see from this shot how much soil they removed from the bridge. There is a definite tide mark.
If you live in the Paphos Region, Skarfos Bridge will be your nearest Venetian Bridge, and far easier to get to than Roudia or Kelefos at the moment, not to mention any of the others. Since it has been given some TLC it is well worth a visit, so come and have a marvel at it.
